Historical criminology

The history of Earth is such that it is almost impossible to find a family in which there would be no murders or suicides, robberies, violence, forgeries, as well as arrests, trials, prisons and hard labor. Among the ancestors there could be revolutionaries, dissidents, “traitors” and “spies”, both imaginary and true. Crime stories are not only an attribute of the 20th century. How many crimes were committed in past centuries! And only a small part of them has been adequately investigated. Many crimes went unsolved, and a very significant number of people were convicted of crimes they did not commit. Real life is much more interesting and dramatic than the “varnished” history of our ancestors. Modern investigative methods make it possible to reconstruct the picture of committed or alleged crimes and the punishment incurred for them in the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries, and in some cases earlier. Documents related to criminal plots and political repressions shed light on many aspects of the family’s history.
